ABOUT

Born in New York but raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia for the majority of her life, Nusrat grew up in a religious household and spent most of her childhood at various religious institutes. In 2016, she completed her hifdh, or memorization of the entire Quran and finished my revision two years later. Since then, she had been working closely with different non-profit organizations to teach children Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Her experiences as both a teacher and student of knowledge taught her a lot. During her time as an English and Islamic studies tutor at a refugee camp in Clarkston, Georgia, she was given a taste of bitter reality. Watching the refugees start a second chance at life while struggling to raise their children in a completely unfamiliar environment was overbearing, but it helped shape her current perspective of how the world worked. While she witnessed only a fraction of what people across the globe go through every day, those experiences enhance the value she now holds—which is giving every individual, specifically girls, the opportunity to pursue an education of all levels.

Nusrat is now a Business Management undergrad at Agnes Scott College with an intended Dual Degree in Computer Science with Emory University. Her academic interests include studio art, Japanese, and coding. Additionally, her artwork has been featured at the 2020 Spring Student Showcase at Agnes Scott College. She is currently a peer tutor at the Center for Digital and Visual Literacy as well as the secretary of the Agnes Scott Muslim Student Association.
